It is circulating through social networks that vaccines produced to combat Covid-19 can directly interfere with the genetic material of humans, causing mutations.
However, the information is false. Covid-19 vaccines do not alter the human genetic material, contrary to what the original publication and the respective video stated. The Chinese vaccine specifically cited in the text of Jornal da Cidade Online is made from the inactivated virus, the most traditional technology for the production of immunizers.
The so-called RNA platform vaccines, a relatively new technology that has not yet been approved for commercial use, do not alter the human genetic code. In fact, the so-called messenger RNA, or mRNA, interacts with human cells and allows them to produce pathogen-specific proteins – which are now recognized by the immune system. However, it has no effect on the cell’s DNA.
This technology is just one of many platforms being used in vaccines against Covid-19. Of the 10 vaccines that are currently in the third phase of clinical testing, only two, one developed by the Moderna laboratory and the other by BioNTech with Pfizer, use this technology.
