Warner Bros. Discovery is developing a fifth film in the Matrix franchise. The project will be led by Drew Goddard (“Bad Times at the El Royale”) alongside the work’s co-creator, Lana Wachowski, who will serve as executive producer. The information is from Deadline.
“It is no exaggeration to say that the Matrix films changed both cinema and my life. Lana and Lilly’s exquisite art inspires me daily, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to tell stories in their world,” Goddard said in a statement.
Therefore, the main information about the new film is still a mystery, as well as the return of the original cast made up of Keanu Reeves, Carrie Anne-Moss, Laurence Fishburne, Hugo Weaving and Jada Pinkett Smith.
The announcement comes shortly after the first film, from 1999, turns 25 years old. Combined, the four existing films in the franchise have grossed around US$1.8 billion worldwide.
