The giant duo Godzilla and Kong broke everything in world cinema. The film debuted with US$80 million at the domestic box office, while it made US$194 at the international box office.
With these numbers, “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” became the second biggest opening of the year so far.
The film was behind “Dune: Part 2”, which grossed US$81.5 million in the United States and surpassed US$200 million worldwide in its first weekend.
Still, even with the two blockbusters grossing a lot, box office sales fell 6% compared to the first quarter of 2023, according to Comscore.
In “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire”, the two monsters face a colossal threat hidden within our world, which could not only jeopardize their survival, but also that of all humanity. The film promises to explore the origins of the Titans and the mysteries of Skull Island.
The film features the return of actors Brian Tyree Henry and Rebecca Hall, as well as Dan Stevens as the protagonist Tracker.
“Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” is now showing in theaters.
