Republican Donald Trump is ahead of President Joe Biden in six decisive states for the 2024 presidential election in the United States, according to a Wall Street Journal survey released this Wednesday (3), which revealed voters’ concerns about the economy and Biden’s performance.
As a result, Trump gained a lead of 2 to 8 percentage points among voters in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Arizona, Georgia, Nevada and North Carolina in a survey that included other candidates, the Journal said. The results were similar in a confrontation between just the two, according to the newspaper.
In Wisconsin, a seventh state where the race is expected to be close, Biden led by 3 percentage points in a multi-candidate scenario but tied with Trump in a head-to-head matchup, the WSJ said.
It is worth remembering that Biden’s re-election campaign is facing voters’ concerns about the economy, despite growth in employment, consumption and a higher-than-expected increase in Gross Domestic Product (GDP), an issue that has confused economists and strategists Democratic politicians.
In the survey, negative opinions about Biden’s performance exceed positive opinions by at least 16 percentage points and more than 20 points in four of the states. Trump received an unfavorable review of his work during his time in the White House in only one of the seven states, Arizona.
Additionally, Trump was seen as having the best physical and mental fitness for the job by 48% of those surveyed, compared to 28% for Biden, the poll showed.
The survey of 4,200 voters — 600 in each of seven states — was carried out from March 17 to 24. It has a margin of error of 1.5 percentage points for the full sample and 4 percentage points for the results in each state, the newspaper said.
