Federal government will finance construction of the bridge in Baltimore

US President Joe Biden promised that the federal government will pay the full cost of rebuilding the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, one of the busiest arteries in the country that collapsed in the early hours of Tuesday (26), after being hit by a cargo ship.

“It is my intention that the federal government will pay for the entire cost of rebuilding this bridge, and I hope that Congress will support my effort,” Biden said, speaking from the White House before a trip to North Carolina.

“I spoke with Governor [Wes] Moore this morning, as well as the Mayor of Baltimore, the County Executive, the two state senators and my Secretary of Transportation,” said Biden.

“I told them we are going to send all the federal resources they need to respond to this emergency. And I mean, all federal resources, and we’re going to rebuild that port together,” he added.

As a result, authorities are investigating the cause of the accident. During the press conference, Biden said that, so far, everything indicates that the case was nothing more than a terrible accident.

“Everything indicates that it was a terrible accident. At this time, we have no other indication, no other reason to believe that this was any intentional act,” said the American president.
