President Donald Trump’s approval rating remained at 32% one day before the U.S. midterm elections, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll published Monday, Nov. 2. The figure matched the result from a survey released the previous week and was close to Trump’s record low: 31% approval, recorded Oct. 19.

Half of independent voters surveyed said their votes in this week’s congressional elections would be cast against Trump. Overall, 46% of respondents said they were inclined to vote for Democratic candidates, compared with 38% who preferred Republican candidates. The poll interviewed 1,765 voters in the United States and had a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.

Voters are scheduled to choose new members of Congress on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Republicans have controlled both the House of Representatives and the Senate since Trump won the 2024 election, but the balance of power could change after the midterms.

A poll published by The New York Times on Monday showed Democrats leading in nearly all seven states considered pivotal in the Senate races, suggesting the party could take control of the chamber. Democrats may also gain ground in the House: an Economist/YouGov survey released in late October found that 51.4% of U.S. voters preferred Democratic candidates.
