US presents UN Security Council resolution for ‘immediate ceasefire’ in Gaza

Date:

After vetoing calls for a ceasefire in previous votes, the United States presented a proposed resolution to the United Nations (UN) Security Council calling for an immediate ceasefire in bombings in the Gaza Strip.

With this, the statement was made this Thursday (21) by the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.

In an interview during a trip to Saudi Arabia, Blinken said the possibility of an immediate ceasefire is linked to the release of hostages held by the Hamas terrorist group.

“”We have just presented a resolution before the United Nations Security Council that calls for an immediate ceasefire linked to the release of hostages. Of course, we support Israel and its right to defend itself, to ensure that October 7th never happens again. But at the same time, it is imperative that we focus on the civilians who are in danger and suffering so terribly,” Blinken said.

There was no forecast for the new proposed resolution to be voted on among the members of the UN Security Council until the last update of this report.

In this Thursday’s interview, the secretary also stated that the United States is working together with Egypt and Qatar to reach a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, with the release of hostages.

Blinken is visiting Saudi Arabia to discuss the war between Israel and Hamas.
