Trump says he will release supporters who stormed Capitol if elected

Date:

Former President Donald Trump promised this Monday (11) that he will release people detained for involvement in the attack on the Capitol in 2021 as one of his first measures if he returns to power, with a victory in the November elections.

“My first acts as your next President will be to close the border and release the ‘hostages’ of January 6th who were unjustly imprisoned,” Trump wrote on Monday night on his Truth Social network, without revealing further details.

With this, Trump has already made comments about his hypothetical first day in office, with the promise that upon his return to the White House he would not act as a dictator, “except on the first day”.

It is worth remembering that on January 6, 2021, supporters inflamed by Trump and his false claims of electoral fraud invaded the Capitol to try to prevent the transfer of power to Biden.

In January, during a campaign event in the state of Iowa, the businessman asked Democratic President Joe Biden to “release the hostages”, a word he uses to refer to people detained for participating in the attack on the Capitol, the seat of Congress.

Since then, 1,358 people have been charged, according to data released last week by the Department of Justice. Nearly 500 people were sentenced to prison terms for the attack.
