Shakira says that the film ‘Barbie’ is a castration of masculinity: ‘My children hated it’

Date:

Singer Shakira was very honest when commenting on what she thought of the film “Barbie”, one of last year’s cultural phenomena.

Therefore, without fear of cancellation, the singer, who is the mother of two boys, declared in an interview with the American press that she thought the film did a disservice to masculinity. “My kids absolutely hate it. They felt it was emasculating. And I agree, to a point,” she told Allure magazine.

With this, according to her, she seeks an education that makes her children feel powerful, but without ceasing to respect women. “I’m raising two boys. I want them both to also feel empowered by respecting women. I like pop culture when it tries to empower women without depriving men of their ability to be men, to also protect and provide,” he said.

She continued: “I believe in giving women all the tools and the confidence that we can do all of this without losing our essence, without losing our femininity.”

“I think men have a purpose in society and women have another purpose too. We complement each other, and that complement shouldn’t be lost. Just because a woman can do it all means she should do it?”, he concluded.

In this way, Shakira’s statements, of course, did not go unnoticed and resurrected debates about masculinity and femininity provoked by the film during its release in 2023.
